Will computer programs destroy the charm of chess?
Computers in chess have completely shattered some myths, primarily in gambits, and today many pawn sacrifices have stopped playing because computers have shown how strong defensive resources are in chess and that material cannot be given 'just like that'.
On the other hand, in seemingly ‘dry’ openings, computers have found some great dynamic capabilities, thus giving life into some forgotten variants. But the greatest progress has been made in the endgames, where today the best moves are known and the evaluation of all endings with seven figures, including kings, has led to the revision of many of them that have been misjudged for years and even centuries.
Nevertheless, the most ingenious chess ideas were born in the human-computer combination. Even though, I personally believe that a computer is certainly stronger than a man, but a man and a computer are stronger than a computer. Also, a car is stronger than a man, so we still compete in running, boats move faster in the sea than humans, so we still compete in swimming, computers count better, so we still have math competitions, right?
There are still many questions and controversies about what computer programs have done with the game of chess, and one thing is certain - chess programs can "know everything", but still cannot have the status of intelligent creatures, although they have brought man as a superior species to positions of automation with mental activities and not only in chess.
Because, we live in an era of global technology, with a high risk of slowly losing the ability for creative solutions, as we have “smart” and “intelligent” machines do it for us instead.
