Hello everyone!

Are you ready to learn how to use pins very wisley? If so, get reading!

What are pins?

A pin is a situation started on by a queen or a bishop were a defending piece cannot move without exposing a more valuable piece on its other side to capture by the queen or bishop.

Examples:

Notice: If the knight moves, the bishop will take the queen.
Notice: If the rook moves the king will be put in check, so it cannot move, and the bishop will capture it.

Is it really protected?

Hello! Now after that mini-lesson, we are wiser already!

During pins, most of time we think a certain piece is protected by the pinned piece. But it's not. If you take the piece it's "protecting" it cannot capture your piece without giving up a piece, or if its a king on the other side of the pin, it cannot capture at all. Let's look at an example before we start puzzles!

Now, try one a few on your own!
