Brilliant #2: "Oh, no! My Knight!"
In playing games naturally I occasionally encounter a brilliant (!!) assessment in the Game Review. In self-study, I examine each and save them to my Library for review. Generally, I rather fall into the superior position and in the game itself did not always follow up to best capitalize on my advantage. In my own study I am creating these puzzles and commentary from actual games for the edification of myself and anyone else interested.
Here my opponent maybe thought I blundered when it ended up being deemed Brilliant. Their
move misses a better way to defend a knight that was under attack. By playing this, they let me sacrifice a knight for a nice tactic. This lead to material gains for White and a more vulnerable
. A
becomes an overloaded defender in an Absolute Pin and basic Pin situation.
