Games of Past - The Captain vs Philidor
I recently relinquished a part of my stubborn and obstinate nature, which simply refused that I enjoy the games of past in serious fashion. Needless to say, it wasn't carved out of me, but rather I fell down the stairs and noted, "hey, there's a game by Philidor." Yes, the legend famously known for his maxim: "pawns are the soul of chess."
A fan of the pawn, myself, this game really nudged my fancy and painted an old man's (I feel old) face with a youthful array of expression. It's quite dated, and appears right at the start of my database, hence my first choice. If you've not seen it yet then I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. And if you've already, then by my own maxim (born right here on chess.com), I hope you'll enjoy it again. I'd also like to note that the annotations in this game are not my own, they are as is in my database, which was shipped with every copy of Chessmaster. I'm not certain if Ubisoft annotated the games themselves, or if there is some central database available to the public where such PGN's can be found.
Without further due: Captain Smith vs Philidor, London 1790.
