Joseph Blackburne was one of the first chess professionals in the 19th century.  His tournament career spanned 52 years from 1862 to 1914 and while he didn't win very many tournaments, his income came from simultaneous exhibitions.

Here is a simul game where he was given an interesting mate in 3 that he overlooked (top puzzle) and on the next move had a completely different mate in 2 which he nailed.  Curious....
