Hello. You are probably wondering what this is. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/tournaments/survival-chess-tournament  It is a tournament that I am looking to host with more than ten players. Players of all ratings and skill levels are encouraged to join as if you play with stronger players, you too will be stronger. Now, for example, I will use 10 players playing in 4 game rounds to illustrate how the tournament might look like (but it will look different, literally). Their elo's will be this:

Player 1 (2000), Player 2 (1800) Player 3 (1600), Player 4 (1400), Waterstone33 (1200), Player 5 (1000), Player 6 (800), Player 7 (600), Player 8 (400), and Player 9 (200).

For the first round, you only need 1 point to move on here. One win is all it takes. For the first week, it is orientation rounds (They get you into the expected placement in the tournament). Player 1 will face 8 and 9, 2 faces 8 and 9 as well, etc. The results for this:

Player 1: 2

Player 2: 2

Player 3: 2

Player 4: 2

Me: 1.5 (Received bye)

---------- ELIMINATION LINE ----------

Player 5: 0.5 ( " )

Player 6: 0

Player 7: 0

Player 8: 0

Player 9: 0

Two more games take place next week to finish off the round:

Player 1: 4

Player 4: 4

Player 2: 3

Player 3: 2

Me: 2

Player 6: 2

Player 5: 1

Player 7: 1

Player 8: 1

---------- ELIMINATION LINE ----------

Player 9: 0 (ELIMINATED)

Oh no! Player 9 is eliminated! Well, too bad, the tournament will go on without you. The next round will be 3 points necessary to move on. That's just the nature of this tournament.

You might have a question at this point, "There's an odd amount of players, not everyone can play 4 rounds perfectly, what do you do?". The answer to that is one player receives a bye per round. Each player will receive a bye before being put at the bottom of a bye list. The bye list will make sure no player is carried by the byes to the end of the tournament. The bye list will be determined by rating, so the lower rated players will receive the byes first before the higher rated ones. Eliminated players are removed from the bye list (or shuffled down to the bottom of the list forever where they will never see the light of day).

Let's now get to the details of what the games themselves will look like. The rules are down below with explinations as to why they are rules, and I will also explain how to submit your games CORRECTLY (so you don't get eliminated).

10+0 (Ten Minute) (unless another time control is agreed upon mutually, and in which I need to see proof from both players). The reason behind this rule is that there is a standard time control that is reasonable for a lot of players, and if you both do not like the time control, it can be changed for that round only. Proof must be at least agreed upon within the start of the tournament, and for proof, I need a snapshot of your DM's saying that you agree to this, as to any other rule that deals with agreement.

10 Games per Round (unless specified before the round starts). Not much explanation behind this one. That's how many games you will be paired up with and have to play. If you do not play a game against someone, you at least need to message them within 72 hours before the end of the round. Again, I need proof.

You need to play those 10 people in the colour specified to be played in for a game to be valid. It is so that you make yourself white for every single game. No exceptions.

Games will be unrated. No rating points are at stake. If it is rated, it will not be accepted. No exceptions.

Tiebreakers will be determined later. Do not worry about this, it is only if things become too hard to eliminate someone each round. It may be by rating, or tournament points before tiebreakers. Don't worry about this.

Both players need to submit the same game in order for it to be official. It must be the exact game. It is so that if you played multiple games against each other, then both of you submit wins for yourself. If one of you does not, then you will receive a warning and will receive 0 points for that game. Feel free to object if the game is not what you played and it is submitted. If it is a false objection, you will receive 0 points for that game and a warning.

If you sign up, you agree to these rules. If you do break these rules, you may be automatically eliminated. You will receive one warning per rule broken. If you broke multiple, or if you accumulated 2 warnings, you are automatically eliminated regardless of your position.

You will copy and paste a game that you played into a forum that has not been created. If you put it into a board, it will not be accepted. PGN's will also not be accepted. You will be informed what this forum is at a later date.

If you have any questions, please let me know down below, and not in the forum at the top of this page. You should sign up there. Thank you for taking the time to consider this tournament and read this article.
