Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening (whatever time it is you’re reading this!)
As a huge fan of electronic chess boards, I’m beyond excited about the upcoming Chessnut Move! If you’re familiar with Chessnut Products, you know they make a fantastic range of electronic chess boards to suit everyone’s needs. But if you haven’t seen them yet, you can always check out this video here, where I run through all the boards they have so far.
That video doesn’t include the Move, though, which—if you didn’t guess it already—is a set with Self Moving Pieces!
It’s something that really excites me, because I’ve never had the pleasure of owning a self-moving chess set. I know they’ve been around for a while from other creators, but I’ve avoided them until now due to several issues that people have raised.
So, what do we know about the Chessnut Move so far? Here’s what I’ve gathered from lurking their Instagram, Reddit, and... uh... weekly stakeouts outside their office. (One of those might not be true. You decide.)
The Chessnut Move has... Self Moving Pieces!
Okay, okay... I've already mentioned that. It is also in the name.. Move.. but check out this video of out it works.
Additionally, this video shows it setting up a position from a FEN. No more waiting around to set up training positions on a board when it can do it for you. The future is now—well, in a few months anyway! |

Appearance and Size
 |
The Chessnut Move comes in at 52 cm by 63.2 cm and offers two design options: plastic pieces or wooden pieces. Personally, I’m torn between the two! The wooden pieces are—well, wooden—so that’s a plus for me. But the plastic pieces seem to blend really well with the base, as they’re the same color, while the wooden pieces have a metal base. I assume the height of the base is part of the movement mechanism, but I’d love to know which set you prefer! |
The Chessnut Move has a Chessnut Vision!!!
 |
They've highlighted all the features, but if you look closely (I’ve even circled it for you—you're welcome!), you'll see one of my absolute favorite features from the Chessnut Evo. And guess what? It’s coming to the Move too! That’s something I’m really excited about! The other features are great, of course... but Chessnut Vision? Now, that’s something truly amazing! |
The Chessnut Move Timeline
 |
As you can see, the Chessnut Move has been in the works for years. They’ve taken their time with it, making sure it’s as perfect as possible before releasing it. It’s refreshing to see a company prioritize quality over speed. After all, as any good chess player knows, it’s all about taking your time and making the right moves! |
Most important feature... it fits on a coffee table!
Coffee table not included with set
Yes, you read that right. It’s the perfect size to sit on your coffee table. So, when your friends come over, you can casually show off your self-moving chess set. |
 |
The Chessnut Move has a Pre-Sale!
 |
So, if you’re already as hyped as I am, you can jump in on the pre-sale! It’s definitely worth checking out.
I also have an affiliate code. Code: WHIGGI which usually gets you an even better deal than what’s listed on the site. Feel free to use it if you want to save a little extra! |
So, what do you think of the Move?
Is it something you might be tempted to pick up and add to your collection? Let me know your thoughts on the Move in the comments! Do you like the pieces? Do you like the size? Would this board fit your needs or is something missing?
Also, you can check out other Electronic boards, such as the Pro, Evo, Go and Air+ on my youtube channel
Have a good one!
