ChessMindAway launched "Chess in the Park" yesterday at Benjasiri Park, an 11.6 acres of lush greeneries, gardens, loop trails, and a playground dotted with water features, among others, located right at the heart of Bangkok Metropolis.
ChessMindAway, a brainchild of youngster Shin Jingjang believed in a study that states- "sports and games work to reduce stress and improve the overall mental health of the public".
Shin, a member of the Thailand Team (Open) who saw action in the most recent World Chess Olympiad, has been channeling part of his time to find ways to give back to the community.
Giving free lectures, learning materials and even chess equipment around the country is the cornerstone of this young man's advocacy.
Recently he touched the hearts of many when he visited a center for handicapped kids, where he taught them the rudiments of the game, handed them their learning materials, and highlighted the visit with a sizeable donation.
Presently a Year 12 student of the famed Harrow International School of Bangkok, Shin wants to spend the remaining time of his middle school life before he goes abroad for college, to massively promote the game to his fellow countrymen and even internationally if time allows.
On the afternoon of the launching of Chess in the Park, ChessMindAway's Charity Chess Tournament also took place with resounding success at Double Bishop Chess Academy where Shin studies chess under the baton of FM Deniel Causo.
What a remarkable undertaking! one worthy of emulation 👏
I can't help but take also this opportunity to express admiration to people around the world who uses their own precious time and money to champion the cause of chess and wellness, to wit, a salute to Olga Mushtaler who does everything to make chess an official sport in Canada and chess as an integral part of the education system, among others. Hats off also to the ever-philanthropic Blue Chevaliers gang of Peter Frost, Bami Tanachaporn, David Camhi, Nicolas Noel, Matthieu Penot, and Jeremi Nodon as they continue to bring the game to a higher level through their generous support to many local events as well as organizing marquee events of International magnitude.
There is also the ever-strong Bangkok Chess Club, headed by Sir Kai Tuorila, Peter Spørck Darby, et al, who for decades placed the country on the sporting map with the successful stagings of the famed annual Bangkok International Open as well as making BCC Friday Night Blitz a regular activity through the years.
Of course, to Thailand Chess Association headed by Sir Sahapol Nakvanich for coming up with wonderful events throughout the year.
