Way to 1000-1.1. Reviewing My Recent Game
Today, I decided to test myself against one of Chess.com’s Coach Bots Before I do a Rapid Game. These bots are designed not just to challenge your play, but to help you learn—highlighting mistakes, missed tactics, and areas for improvement. It’s like having a patient (and relentless) sparring partner.
The Setup
I played a game against Coach Bot “David” (rated 1000). I chose white and started with the Reti opening—an opening I’m trying to get friendly with.
Key Moments from the Game
1. Early Initiative with Reti opening
2. Early Misstep – Forked by a pawn, lost a Knight
3. Rushing the Attack
4. Endgame Fatigue
Final Result: Won, but Loaded with Blunders
-
4 critical blunders
-
4 missed tactical opportunities
Takeaways
-
Slow down—don’t rush into tactics that aren’t there.
-
Always scan for loose pieces (hanging knights are a theme…).
-
Study one endgame concept per day this week.
-
Keep playing bots when I’m tired instead of blitzing random games.
Looking Ahead
Next week, I’ll share a few games against human opponents and check in on my rating progress. I’m not expecting a huge jump yet—but I do expect to feel more in control of my games.
Onward to 1000.
