I'm confused

I was going through the Chess.com forums and kept seeing thread about different styles of play. Like Queens Gambit, Itallian somthing or other, French bread I don't know. What are all of these things and how do I learn about them? Do I need to learn them? If I play Itallian am I going to get a plate of spagetti? What is the differece with these things? I really feel like a dummy because I don't have a clue. I don't bother reading articles and other things because it's all above my pay grade. I just don't have a clue. How do I find my way around this game?
