In chess there are three outcomes: a win, a loss, or a draw. You usually want a draw if you are losing. The main ways to draw are: threefold repetition, stalemate or offering a draw. Offering a draw is not forced and is based on the player. Threefold repetition is when the same position appears on the board 3 times. A stalemate is when the opponent can't make any legal moves and the king is not in check.

Threefold Repetition

To get threefold repetition, there are tricks like perpetual check.

The king can't escape the Queen's checks so it's a draw.

Stalemate

There are tricks to stalemate. If you believe you are losing, check if your king has anywhere to go. If he doesn't, try sacrificing your only pieces that can move.

White sacrificed the Rook to stalemate in the example above.

There are other ways to draw that you should know if you start winning.

The 50-Move Rule

If there have been no pawn moves or captures for 50 moves, the game can be a draw. This is not mandatory. In comes the 75-move rule. An arbiter can force a draw.

Draw by Timeout vs. Insufficient material

This one is actually helpful. If you get low on time, you can claim a draw, if your opponent's position is so bad they just can't come back from it, and you would win with more time, you can draw.
