5 TRAPS IN THE SMITH-MORRA GAMBIT
The Sicilian is a very vast opening to master
Can we try to defeat it without much Preparation???
YES!
We will use the Smith-Morra Gambit
Wait, what is this???
The sacrifice of a pawn for
- Lead in devolopment
- Piece activity
- Strong Center pawn
- Open c-file for rook
What else do you need?
So, in this post we will be looking at the main traps
Trap 1 - Early Queenside Expansion
As you can see The Bishop on c4 can be very venomous.
It can sac itself on f7 in many variations followed by Nf3-e5 or even Qd5
Here is another example
Trap 2 - The undefended Piece
Another example of how the activity and fluid development of pieces is just too strong
You may have realised that leaving pieces unprotected, Diagonals Open White can end the game immediately. So, whats the antidote?
I will show it to you after trap 3
Trap 3 - Defend it twice
Bxf7+ strikes again!
Oh yes! you may think we need to control the e5 square to avoid such breaks in the center
Maybe you will change your opinion after this trap
Trap 4 - Central Explosion
Sweet! A 2 knight mate
You will be begging me to tell the real antidote
Okay one last trap before I reveal the Antidote
Easy advantage once again
Time to reveal the antidote!
The real idea of the Smith-Morra is fluid development
So we need to refuse the extra pawn
We can play 3.... d3! Giving white problems with his d3 Bishop ( He will take 4. Bxd3 obviously)
This is an example of the setup
