The Scotch Gambit:

The scotch gambit is characterized by the moves 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Bc4. In this gambit, White gives up a pawn to create an attack.

In this blog post, we will go over the scotch gambit and its strategy.

4. ...Bc4

4. ...Bc4 is a common move from black to protect the d-pawn and develop a piece. However, it is not the best move. There are 2 ways to play this position.

1. c3!

c3 is a nice move and is the best move according to the computer. The objective of this move is to attack the center and open the d-file.

If Black does not capture, then we will take on d4 with tempo and gain a huge center, so they are forced to capture. Then, we have a nice tactic. See if you can find it.

White is down a pawn but has a great position with a centralized queen and with black's king in the open.

2. Ng5

Ng5 is another way to counter this.

Thanks for reading this post! More coming up on the Scotch gambit soon!
