First moves
I began an unconventional first move pattern which appeared to be throwing off whoever I played. It didn't matter if I was white or black, I just kept the same pattern going again and again. I easily did this 1,000 times over the course of a year. I was winning more than I lost, so I kept it going. One time I got heavily criticized by someone who told me it was the most absurd opening a chess player could do and that I should be ashamed of using it, as if the chess authority were going to arrest me and ban me from playing the game ever again. It obviously sparked a reaction on my part, which now when I look back at the comment I should have just ignored it. I did notice that most of my wins are resignations whenever I use it; rarely does the opponent play out a full game if I take a lead mid-game.
