It is never too late to learn how to play chess - the most popular game in the world! It is easy to learn the rules of chess:
Each of the 6 different types of pieces moves differently. The pieces cannot move through other pieces (although the horse can jump over other pieces) and cannot move in squares where their own pieces already exist. They can, however, move to a square where they will take the place of an opponent piece, which in this case is captured. The pieces generally move to squares where they can capture other pieces (if placed in their square and replace them), to squares where they can defend their own pieces in case of capture or to control important squares in the batch.

How the King Moves in Chess
The king is the most important piece, but it is one of the weakest. The king can only move one square in each direction - front, back, horizontally and diagonally. The king can never move himself in shah (where he can be captured). When a piece attacks the king, it is called "shah".

How the Queen Moves in Chess
The queen is the most powerful piece. It can move in any straight direction - forward, backward, horizontally or diagonally - as far as it does not go through any of its own pieces. As with the other pieces, if the queen captures a piece of the opponent, her move is complete. Notice that the white queen captures the black queen and then the black king is forced to move.

How the Chess Tower Moves
The tower can move as far as it wants, but only forward, backward and horizontally. Towers are very strong pieces when they protect each other and work together!

How the Officer Moves in Chess
The officer can move as far as he wants, but only diagonally. Each officer starts in one color (white or black) and must always stay in that color. Officers work well together because they cover each other's weaknesses.

How the Horse Moves in Chess
The horses move very differently from the other pieces - they move two squares in one direction and then another square at a 90 degree angle, just like the shape of an "L". Horses are also the only pieces that can move on top of other pieces.

How the Chess Pioneer Moves
The pawns are unusual, as they move and capture in different ways: they move forward but capture diagonally. The pieces can only move one square at a time, except for their first move where they can move two blocks forward. The pawns can only capture one square diagonally in front of them. They can never move or catch back. If there is another piece right in front of a pawn, it cannot move over it or capture it.
