Chess master Humpy Koneru won a gold medal the World Youth Chess Championship when she was under 10 years old. Her history is amazing!
- She was originally named “Hampi” derived from the word champion (no surprise there) and she fell in love with chess from the start.
- She was one of the youngest females to achieve the grandmaster title at age 15.
- Not only did she win a gold medal at the under 10 championship, but she won two more at the under 12 and the under 14.
- She was in the FIDE Women’s Championship.

Humpy always wanted to bring her father to her championships. She was mad at the All India Chess Federation for not letting her bring her father.
She won second place in the FIDE Women’s Championship!
