RP Chess Academy Graduates 5 New Club Arbiters

On December 18-19, 2010, the RP Chess Academy located at Mindanao Avenue, Project 6, Quezon City, Philippines,   hosted the 1st PACE-NCA Chess Arbiter's Seminar and certified 5 new arbiters after two days of extensive instructions, discussions, and examinations.  The new club arbiters are Angelo Subida - a psychiatrist,  Adelbert Evangelista - an IT practioner, Daniel Aquino, Jr. - a businessman,  Alberto Dacallos, Jr. - a secondary school teacher, and Hernan Arabejo - a chess club administrator.

The seminar was conducted by Gene Poliarco, an International Arbiter and Elias Lao, Jr. , an International Arbiter and National Master. National Arbiter Boyet Tardecilla coordinated the seminar program.

The agenda included detailed study of the Laws of Chess as applied to standard or classical, rapid and blitz tournament games; the basics of pairing systems that included round-robin tournaments and computerized and manual Swiss system of pairing. The breaking of ties was also extensively discussed. The seminar culminated with the administration of  a 3-part examination that delved on tournament and game situations.

The RP Chess Academy  or Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence (www.rpchessacademy.org)  is a non-profit chess organization founded by GM Jayson Gonzales with the objective of helping promising talents seek the paths to chess mastery. The instructors included grandmasters, international masters, national masters and international  and national arbiters.
