My best games series: Part 1, the crazy catalan.
Hi everyone, I'm aronian22, and I'm a huge fan of......well.......chess! For lack of a better phrase, I like helping out my pieces. Oh, and winning. I love winning. Now, I get that there are people out there who say things like, "Losing helps you learn!" or "You can't win any if you don't lose some!" And I get where you're coming from. Losing isn't the end of the world. But honestly, I'd rather learn by winning. It's way more fun! So in this series I want to focus on winning. But not just any win. Yes, I'm talking about THAT win. That perfectly executed combination you're so proud of. Your Mikhail Tal moment. I love it when a plan comes together! So I'm here to show my favorite games that I was honored to participate in.
So today's game is probably the most accurate of all the games I'll show you. I do have games of mine I love, but they're not always, um, perfectly sound. You'll see what I mean. But let me set the stage for this game. It's a small tournament, in a small club. I've had an good tournament so far, with 2 wins and 1 draw. I'm playing an opponent a few rating points above me. I've certainly played them before, but not enough that I know their openings in depth. I'll just call them D.S. At this point, I'd taken up the catalan very recently. This game inspired me so much that I still play it today. So, looking at the statistics, anything could happen. I sit down on the white side of the board, ready to play.
So, all in all, a very interesting game that I won due to a strategic error. What did you think? Feel free to give feedback in the comments. I plan to do at least four installments in this series, but tell me if you think I should do something else. Bye for now, see you later!
