Sunday Afternoon

Through KCAChess.org, I found a monthly tournament that isn't too much of a drive from my house. It was in the cafe section of a Barnes and Noble, and I had a good time.

The TD said usually around 8-10 guys are there each week, but a few went up this weekend to play in the big Kings Island Open, and the weather was just gloomy, so there were 4 of us today and we just played a little round robin. Usually they play a 3-round Swiss.

I ended up going 1-2, but I don't feel too bad about it. My first loss was against at 2050, who won the tournament with 3-0, my second loss to the runner-up (2-1), and my win against the last place guy (0-3) who must've been significantly lower rated than myself. I can't be completely sure because of how the round robin gets set up as opposed to a swiss, but I believe both the players I lost to were ranked higher than me, so my bad record shouldn't bring my rating down too much.

Not like I've done much deserve anything over 1000 anyway.

We'll see how the numbers work out in a few days when uschess.org has things posted, but for now I'm happy with the afternoon and plan to go back next month.
