The line recommended against the Scandinavian defense is surprisingly simple to play, and is not very sharp. Still, White gets a slight advantage out of the opening.

The idea is to delay playing Nc3, and instead play for c4 and d4. This way, White gets a nice space advantage in the center.

Specifically, White plays Nf3, Be2 and castles, Re1, c4, d4 and Nc3. Let us see some sample games.

Game 1 is between Tim Taylor and Craig Allen, Faber.

Game 2 is between Gregory Kaidanov and Roman Dzindzichashvili. Even though the position is mostly equal throughout, according to fritz, it is much easier to play White side of the game.

And the final game is between Hikaru Nakamura and Sergei Tiviakov.
