Born: November 19, 1888 in Havana (Cuba); died: August 12, 1942 in New -York.
A Cuban chess player, the 3-d World Champion (1921 - 1927), a chess literary man and a diplomat.
Capablanca
Four-year-old Capablanca got acquainted with chess watching his father's play.
 
1902, Havana. At the age of 13 Capablanca defeated J. Korso (+ 4, - 3, = 6) and became the Champion of Cuba.
 
1911, San Sebastian. Capablanca's international debut. The sensational victory: 9.5 points out of 14.
 
The World Championship Matches:
 
1921, Havana. Lasker - Capablanca. Capablanca won with the score of 9 : 5 (+ 4, - 0, = 10) and became the 3-d World Champion in the history of chess.
 
1927, Buenos Aires. Capablanca - Alekhine. After the stubborn struggle Capablanka lost his World Champion's title. The score was 15,5 : 18,5 (+ 3, - 6, = 25).
