Excuses first.  Not prepared to fight on Saturday (usually play on Friday nights), we only had 3 players (currently looking for a 4th so we don't gift 4 points every week.  If we won those 4 points the score would have been 8-8 even with my lack-luster performance) and hanging out with family BMR goes down without a fight.

Truth: I played lazy chess and got stomped by really good players.

My team the RRT had a reality check and tough outing versus the talented Horsemen United (HU) who won the match 12-4 (we should have tied with the right 4th player).

The Good: The team captain played solidly and outscored his rating adding 2 point out of 4 games.  I didn't lose every game, and of course we are still very much in the playoff picture.

The Bad: we lost! I played like that drunk uncle no one talks about at thanksgiving and gave HU momentum and confidence.  Here is my first lost where I just tried to control and open file at the cost of my king.  I saw that after all captures were made I'm just matted but I said this file is mine and the rating gap will convince my opponent not to trade and win.  Then I thought even if he does see the trade of rooks and the queen check on the back rank, he for sure will not see the Bishop to the back rank and let my king escape with the file and better position.

This type of thinking is what F-players (rated below 600) are made of!

Then when the match was tied going into round three I gave up an easy draw in the English (not able to convert a pawn advantage due to getting my king trapped on the rook file.

Finally I crashed and burned against the 'thief of jellybeans.'

The Ugly: I managed to swindle my only win in round 1 whilst shouting how great our team is and then falling flat on my face round after round.  I was the greatest RSS player to ever join the league until I became the worst.  The founder pointed out correctly in the first week 1 of the league I play well but often blunders as a result of quick and lazy moves.

I will recover from this ugly week with a new teammate, attitude, sense of urgency and most importantly go on a winning streak like the league has never seen before.

BMR until next week.
