In my teens I played my 4 year older cousin chess and anagrams. I loved both games, but he would always beat me in chess. Later I taught my 11 year younger brother chess and I, now rarely beat him. I took an 8th Grade Chess elective and learned the rudiments of the game. I was also learning Algebra, which took most of my effort, not mastering until a softmore in HS. My Grandfather beat me at checkers all the time, he was expert at that simple game, he hated chess. My Ex and I played chess, usually on the bed and it led to other games, invariably. My 3 sons cannot and will not play, they like tennis.
