We'll start with how to move the pieces.
The goal of the game: Checkmate the opponent's king by putting it in check* without it having any safe squares to move to
- How do the pieces move:
- Knight: Can move two squares vertically and one horizontally or vice versa, some people compare it to an "L" or a "7"... it can jump over other pieces
- Bishop: Can move to any square diagonally: It must not jump over other pieces:
- Rook: Can move to any square vertically or horizontally. It must not jump over pieces
- Queen: Can move to any square diagonally, horizontal or vertically. It must not jump over pieces and is a bit like a rook and bishop combined:
