Puzzle Battle Championship: All the info
Hi guys! It's time for another event here on Chess.com - Puzzle Battle Championship!
So let's get started with some basic rules you need to know.
1. It's a TEAM championship. This means you need to create or join a team that is filled with Chess.com members. We will take a closer look at this point later in the post.
2. This championship is 100% free. You don't need to pay to enter this event. However, you won't win any money too)
3. This championship will start AS SOON AS WE GET ENOUGH TEAMS.
I. Joining the championship.
1. Team Creation.
If you want to create a Team, you firstly need to message me its name. I will then add your team to the list. After that, you can start finding your teammates. The structure of the team looks like this:
Board 1 - 2000+ Puzzle Battle rating
Board 2 - 1800-2000 Puzzle Battle rating
Board 3 - 1600-1800 Puzzle Battle rating
Board 4 - 1400-1600 Puzzle Battle rating
Board 5 - 1200-1400 Puzzle Battle rating
Board 6 - <1200 Puzzle Battle rating
Average rating((rating of Board 1 + rating of Board 2 + ... + rating of Board 6) / 6) must be between 1400 and 1600!
Once your team is ready, feel free to send me the final roster. Note that you can have up to 2 players, who can replace some players in your team for a game. Obviously, an 1800-2000 player can't replace a 1600-1800 player, so, please be careful!
2. How to join a team.
You don't have to create a team though. Any player can join teams created by other participants. I will post a forum in my brand new "Puzzle Battle Championship CLUB"(link here: https://www.chess.com/club/puzzle-battle-championship-club) with all teams list. You can contact the owner of any team and, if he accepts you, become a Championship Player.
3. Maximum number of Teams in the Puzzle Battle Championship.
The maximum number of teams is 8 (48 players). However, I can increase this number to 16 teams if a lot of players come to this event (I personally don't think so).
II. Playing in the Puzzle Battle Championship.
Once all teams are ready, the Championship will kick off on November 20th with the first series of matches.
1. Match format.
Every team will play exactly one match with all other teams in the Championship. So let's look at the match's structure:
Team X VS Team Y
Board 1 of Team X Board 1 of Team Y
Board 2 of Team X Board 2 of Team Y
Board 3 of Team X Board 3 of Team Y
Board 4 of Team X Board 4 of Team Y
Board 5 of Team X Board 5 of Team Y
Board 6 of Team X Board 6 of Team Y
Every player must play exactly ONE Puzzle Battle game with his opponent! IMPORTANT: players MUST make a screenshot of the final result of their game and send it to me.
A player gets 1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. All points go to the total score of the team. A team gets 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.
WARNING: all teams must play their matches in two days(Saturday and Sunday).
III. Championship Structure.
There are 7 or 15 (if there are 16 teams in the Championship) weeks of the Regular Season. Teams earn points and play each other team exactly one time.
The Knockout Stage of the Championship starts right after the Regular Season. Top 4 or 8 teams by points advance to the Knockout. Tie-breaks are: match result between two tied teams, the overall number of match wins, number of games that are won by each team's members.
The Knockout match looks like this:
Team X VS Team Y
Board 1 of Team X Board 1 of Team Y
Board 2 of Team X Board 2 of Team Y
Board 3 of Team X Board 3 of Team Y
Board 4 of Team X Board 4 of Team Y
Board 5 of Team X Board 5 of Team Y
Board 6 of Team X Board 6 of Team Y
A Knockout match looks absolutely the same as the Regular Season one!
A player gets 1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. All points go to the total score of the team. A team with more points after all games advances.
If a draw happens in a Knockout match, Boards 1 from each team play 1 more Puzzle Battle game!
WARNING: all teams must play their matches within one week!
IV. Special Rules.
1. Negotiation rules.
If two players don't play their game before the deadline (2 am PST), they both get 0 points!
2. Awards.
Winners will be crowned as the new Puzzle Battle Champions!
