bad coffee day

May 2, 2008, 4:55 PM 0
There's little worse than a a bad coffee day.  It all started when I went to the local grocery and did a budget shopping spin on not only coffee; but, cream as well.  Whewee! The aroma and taste reminded me more of a tobacco farm. It was so bad I called the store to ask what recourse I had on recooping my losses for this very bad (store brand) coffee.  They were empathetic to the point of saying if they had made this blunder, they would simply bring the merchandise back to the store and ask for a refund.  NOOOOOOOOO.....Can you imagine how that would only make this bad experience worse!  I decided I'd simply sprinkle it around rose bushes; but decided they really didn't deserve that.  This expeience really worked to my benefit because it sent me on the unexpected path of learning about what others thought was 5-star coffee.  I have to agree that the Community brand Pralines coffee is very good.  Community and I go way back to mornings with my Mom of Joy (grandmother) serving hot stove-brewed coffee with bread and butter sandwiches for breakfast on her La. farm.  I'd like to send a special thank-u shout out to the guy with the gal pal who puts sugar in the coffee basket.  That actually helped the flavor of this otherwise bad coffee, which yes, I actually found myself enjoying the next day when I tried to swear off coffee forever and switch to green tea as a substitute.  That lasted all of two minutes.  In my previous day's research I learned that freezing coffee is actually bad for maintaining the flavor.  I thought - PERFECT! I left it in the freezer overnight and the next day it really had a much milder flavor.  I learned the freezer change in temp takes the strength out of the coffee.  I'll say this was a 100% Columbian coffee which is known for its strength. Well, it's been a few days and I've adjusted to the flavor to the degree that with a little tweaking had a pleasurable pot of coffee. Well, so much for the moment.  Life has taught me and continues to teach me that some things you just don't compromise on.  A good  cup of coffee is one of them.
