Today I will bring you a different kind of blog. Today I felt like Bobby Fischer… why?

Very simple: I just discovered the secret to gaining 500 ELO points… getting a beautiful chess set that actually makes you want to train! hahaha. But seriously, I just received a replica of his favorite chess set, the Dubrovnik Chess Set from Royal Chess Mall. And basically, ever since I got it, I've started training every single day again 😂

However, the "bad" part is that I chose the book Perfect Your Chess by A. Volokitin & V. Grabinsky, which is quite advanced… so I guess I'm trying to become Fischer the hard way jajaja… but I'm super motivated.

It actually comes at the perfect time, as I've just signed up for an important tournament in a month, so I really need to get back on track. I think this chess set from Royal Chess Mall is going to be my bestie this month.

Unboxing Experience
When I received it, I noticed it was super well protected, Royal Chess Mall really did a great job with the packaging, and one of the things that caught my attention the most was the card… I loved it! I'll show you a picture here.

I also filmed the full unboxing on my YouTube channel if you prefer to watch , check it out here:

The Pieces — Dubrovnik Style

These pieces are famous for their clean and elegant design, and they were Fischer's favorites; he considered them a true joy to play with.

So let's take a closer look at the pieces, and the best way I found to do that is by setting up a Fischer-style tactical puzzle!

Puzzle one!

White to move! Go super crazy! Share your move in the comments!

It looks good, right? But honestly… Having it in my hands feels even better. Royal Chess Mall did an incredible job. The pieces have a beautiful finish, and the board is portable, which has really helped me take it to cafés and even the park to study. Also, you can barely notice the center line, and the rounded corners give it a really premium touch. The wood quality that Royal Chess Mall uses is just stunning

The pieces themselves are gorgeous and feel amazing during play: they have the perfect weight, making them stable but still very comfortable to move. The finish is smooth, the grip feels natural, and the visibility during games is excellent; you can clearly distinguish everything without effort. I especially love the bishops with their clean, elegant cuts, the knights with their fancy but still solid and balanced design, the strong and classic rooks, and even the pawns, which are simple but extremely well proportioned. The king and queen really stand out with their presence; they're tall, well-defined, and quite different from other sets I've used, which makes this Dubrovnik set from Royal Chess Mall feel truly special.

The Board

The board that comes with this Royal Chess Mall set is a folding Dubrovnik-style board, and it genuinely surprised me. It is the perfect size for serious training, squares are spacious enough to set up complex positions without pieces feeling cramped. The portable folding design means I can take it anywhere, and the golden rosewood finish looks stunning on camera and even better in person. The contrast with the pieces is simply something else.  For a chess player who studies as much as plays, this board checks every box.

Playing Experience

So let's go for another puzzle time on the RCM board!

Puzzle two!

I've been using it a lot to solve difficult tactical puzzles, and honestly, it made me think… what if I could actually play official tournaments with it? hahaha

With this set, I'm seeing ideas I didn't see before. Maybe it's psychological, but I really feel like it activates my brain more. I feel like Fischer… well, at least 1% Fischer hahaha.

Honestly, I've been playing chess since I was 8 years old and I've used many different sets, but I completely understand why Fischer loved this one. It's easily one of the most beautiful sets I've ever seen.

Value & Where to Buy

If you are wondering where to get it, head over to royalchessmall.com. They have a wide range of sets for every level and taste. This Dubrovnik set is priced very fairly for the craftsmanship you get. One thing that really gives me peace of mind recommending this is that Royal Chess Mall has warehouses in the USA, UK, India, and Germany. So wherever you are, delivery is fast, and returns are completely hassle-free. They also back their pieces with a 3-year manufacturing warranty, so you are genuinely covered if anything ever goes wrong.

I also love browsing their other collections — if you are curious, here are a few I have my eye on:

Final Thoughts

If you love chess and believe in the idea of "you only live once," I genuinely recommend checking out this set. That said, I also encourage you to explore the Royal Chess Mall website, because they have many other amazing sets as well.

Personally, I'm sticking with this one because ever since I got it, I've felt motivated to train again, something I hadn't felt in a long time, and I'm really grateful for that.

Whether you are a beginner looking for your first quality set or a seasoned player who wants something truly special on the board, the Dubrovnik Chess Set from Royal Chess Mall is one I would genuinely point you to.

See you around! And if you get one, share a picture with me!

Wish you a lot of checkmates! ♟️

Hi

Let me tell you a little bit about my chess background. I started playing chess at the age of 8 because I wanted to defeat my best friend at the time. What can I say? I am super competitive, but I have become a better person now!

So after a lot of chess lessons, I became a provincial and national youth champion. Also, I got second place in the Pan American U-20 Championship (2012) and 10th place in the World Youth Chess Championship (2011), and I earned the FIDE Master title at 15. My peak FIDE rating was 2190.

At the moment, I am not playing OTB that much because I am a full-time chess coach.

Well, let's speak about what the blog is about! I have decided to write some articles about my chess experience, my students' stories, and whatever I can share with you that has to do with chess, basically.

Finally, I hope you like at least a few of them, and I am open to any suggestions! So see you around and make your opponents cry, not your friends! happy
