The only thing that is above all chess principles
My secret to helping my clients achieve extraordinary chess results is teaching them how to use the fundamentals correctly.
If you become a master of the principles, things will get easier.
The principles help you to make practical decisions and make reasonable assessments. This way, you can improve the quality of your moves.
The principles are a guide.
However, there’s something above all the principles, which is why you sometimes see strong players breaking the rules.
The thing above the principles is a deep & accurate calculation of the position.
Sometimes an idea that looks good can be outplayed by an ugly move with a deeply hidden idea.
If something looks ugly but works, then you should make that move. But most importantly, understand why that idea is good.
Remember, “If it works, it works.”
True mastery of the fundamentals is:
1. Knowing the principles
2. Knowing the reasoning behind this principle and how to apply them in your games
3. Know when it’s ok to break these
principles because there’s a specific goal that the anti-esthetic move must reach.
You will increase your quick rating this year if you do this correctly.
