The spring season of the 2026 India College Chess Championship has ended with Shri Ram College of Commerce winning the event for the first time. The team took home a cash prize of ₹3,00,000 (approximately $3,384). Three-time winner SRM bagged second and won ₹2,00,000. Jadavpur University and SSN College of Engineering secured third and fourth and won ₹1,20,000 and ₹60,000, respectively.

Interesting Moments

One of the best players of SRCC, Aaditya Dhingra, fell prey to a neat tactic. Can you spot it?

Winning positions don't win automatically, and sometimes blunders are waiting on the chessboard. White was winning so heavily, but one move spoiled it all away. Check this out:

If you are acquainted with opening principles, then you surely would know to develop pieces quickly. But chess is also about exceptions. White failed to see that and played an autopilot move with 11.Be3. Do you see why it is wrong?

Black found a neat way to make the most of the attack. Can you also find it?

SRCC won the final match with just a one-point margin, and that means this clash played a huge role in determining the winner. Black set a trap and White fell for it. Can you decipher it too?

Before heading to the final standings, I'm leaving you with a game that featured a rare theme. White answered a check with a check in return.
