Mating Patterns
Mating patterns can appear anywhere in chess. They are often missed. I will show you some of the cool mating patterns!
hope you have fun reading and you get some good stuff out of his post. Here we go.
1. Legal’s Mate
This mate was first seen in a French master’s game. His name was Legál. The game dated from around 1750.
Legal shocked his opponent by playing 5. Nxe5! His greedy adversary, thinking this was a horrible blunder, snatched up the queen with 5... Bxd1?? And Legal delivered mate with Bxf7+ Ke7 Nd5#.
2. Damiano’s mate
This mate originates from a master called (suprise!) Damiano. here is one basic position: (Not going for a realistic position here)
Even though black had the move, They were unable to prevent Qh7+ followed by Qh8#.
Here is the same basic pattern, but in a more fun position.
that’s all for damiano’s mate.
3. Anastasia’s Mate
this is a mate that shows the full potential of the knight and rook working together. The knight forces the king into the corner and simultaneously controls the g8 and g6 squares. The rook finishes it off.
Now that we know this, let’s employ it in a more striking manner.
White gives up his queen to open the h file.
4. Back rank mate
this mate occurs when the pawns on f7, g7, and h7 obstruct the king from getting away rom the rook or queen that is attacking.
Now let’s add a queen sac.
(Death on the 8th rank)
5. Smothered mate
this is where a king is mated by a knight, and the king is obstructed by his own pieces!
here is the mate in again a more striking manner.
(too much affection from the black king’s army leads to his death)
That is all for Mating Patterns. I will show you more next week, hope you learned something with this post!
