What I Did to Go from 300 to 1000 in 6 Months (No Coach, No Magic)

Hi! I want to share how I improved from 300 ELO to 1000 in just 6 months. 

No coach, no paid course, just me, my laptop, and lots of games (and rage, sometimes).

 

I play only blitz and bullet, so maybe my path is a bit different than others—but it worked for me.

 

 

1. Tactics First, Always

 

In blitz and bullet, you don’t have much time to think deep. So quick tactics are super important. I started solving puzzles every day—maybe 10 to 15.

 

 

 

 

At first I failed many, but after time I start to see patterns: forks, pins, double attacks. These win games fast, even against higher-rated players.

 

📌 Tip: Don’t rush puzzles. Even if you play fast games, slow puzzles help brain learn fast ideas.

2. I Still Review Some Games – Even Fast Ones

Yes, it's blitz and bullet, but I still check why I lost sometimes. I look at Game Review to see blunders and mistakes. It takes 2–3 minutes only, but I always learn something.

 

 

Usually, it’s not deep strategy. Just “I hang a piece” or “I miss mate in 1.” Fixing that is already big step.

 

📌 Tip: Check 1–2 lost games per day. Even that small habit can help a lot.

 

 

3. I Use Only Easy Openings

I don’t study deep openings. In blitz, people forget theory fast. So I choose London System for White (easy setup) and Scandinavian for Black (quick queen and active game). Both help me get out of opening fast and into tactics.

 

 

 

 

📌 Tip: Don’t memorize lines. Just learn basic ideas and plans. In blitz, time is more important than perfect move.

 

4. I Watch Gotham and Botez (But I Learn from Them Too)

I like GothamChess because he explains fast but clear. I pause his videos and try to guess the next move. Also, BotezLive is fun, and sometimes I learn tricks or traps they fall into.

5. I Learned to Lose Without Losing My Mind

When I was 300, I rage a lot. Slam the mouse, queue again, and lose again.

 

Now I just smile and say “OK, today not my day.” Sometimes I expect to lose, just to see what I can survive.

📌 Tip: Blitz and bullet are fast, but your improvement is slow. Don’t worry for rating every game.
