Tactics Training Day 5 | More Survival Puzzle Rush

Back to my tactics training! And it seems that today I can actually follow the plan I laid out yesterday (*gasp*)! What I'm doing today I also did a few days ago on my third day of tactics training. You ca find that here:

More Survival Puzzle Rush!

It seems like I do this a lot these days.

Anyway. I have a little problem (*gasp* again). Flashback to my third day of tactics training:

"Unfortunately I'm not feeling that great today, had a little headache and was tired so we'll see if that lowers my scores."

You can find that quote at the link above. In any case, my problem is that I have the same problem again today. My head isn't feeling all that well again. Personal reasons. It shouldn't be that big of a deal. Back to chess.

If you don't remember my plan for Tuesday, here it is:

"Tuesday: 2 Survival Rush, trying to get the highest score I can get, taking as much time that I need. Also 20 rated puzzles."

Speaks for itself. Today I'm doing 2 Survival Puzzle Rushs and 20 rated puzzles again. Gotta get the tactics firmly set into my mind. Hopefully it works! Again, I'm trying get an insanely high score and taking as long as I need to do that. Here's how I did on my two attempts.

ATTEMPT 1: 39

I'm not going to bore you with the details of how I made stupid mistakes and messed up a 1500 rated puzzle.

ATTEMPT 2: 41

Not bad, but it could have been much better. But 41 isn't even close to my goal of an insanely high score. I still haven't even beaten my record of 44. Slowing down is my problem. I'm so used to going faster that I have trouble realizing that it's survival and I can take however long I want.

My average for today is 40. That's better than the last time I did Puzzle Rush for my tactics training, two days ago on my third day, when my average was 36.5. It's slightly better than my first day of training, when my average was 39.4. However, that day I did 5 attempts, which affects my performance because of how long it took. So my averages are getting a little bit better, which has to be a good thing.

Now it's time for me to do 20 rated puzzles. I don't want to overdo it so that I can take my time and solve as many as possible. Tomorrow I will focus on individual puzzles exclusively and bump it up to 30 rated puzzles along with 20 learning puzzles (unrated). I'll set the unrated puzzles to be easier so that I can practice the basic patterns and up my calculation speed.

Here's how I did on my rated puzzles today.

PUZZLES ATTEMPTED: 20

PUZZLES SOLVED: 12

PASS RATE: 60%

STARTING PUZZLES RATING: 2714

ENDING PUZZLES RATING: 2782

RATING +/- TODAY:  +68

A 60% pass rate is a little worse than yesterday, which was 70%, but I'm not worried. As my puzzles rating is going up, so is the difficulty of the puzzles. If I can stay above 50%, that's good, and as you can see my rating still goes up by quite a bit. I actually got above 2800 today but failed a few puzzles and went back below.

+68 is good, though. I'm getting closer to 3000. Before I started this training, I did the rated puzzles fast and just played whatever moves I saw first without thinking. Now that I started actually slowing down and thinking more, my rating's going up immediately.

Now see if you can solve some of the puzzles I did today!

How many could you solve? The first one was rated over 2700...

Hope you enjoyed the puzzles! Thanks for reading and I'll be back tomorrow with more on how my tactics training is going!

Bye for now!
