Tactics Training Saturday Speed Chess | Highlights
I've been doing tactics training for the past eight days. Now, as planned, I'm taking a break for the weekend to actually play games. Today I'll be playing exclusively speed chess. Tomorrow I'll be playing the time control that I really focus on, 10|0. In a tournament situation the time controls will be much longer, but I have a tournament at the beginning of September in Central Park in NYC, and the time control there will be 10|0. I also enjoy 10|0 a lot because it is a fast time control and allow moves that would be given a !? or ?!, but also gives time to think (although, I must admit, not a lot).
Today, I'll be playing whatever short time controls I feel like, and I'll try to focus on getting my bullet and blitz ratings up. Probably my main time controls will be 1 minute, 3 minute, 5 minute, 3|2, and 1|1. I prefer playing without increments so that time is more of a factor.
The reason I'm doing this is, put simply, to take a break and relax. Although it might not seem like it, my training regimen is actually quite tiring and intense. Doing puzzles constantly takes a toll. I love speed chess and it's a great way to still include chess while at the same time resting. I won't get to worked up about my rating, but as always I want to get them up.
In this post I'll be sharing some highlights as I play, like neat combinations, mating sequences, tactics, etc.
My starting bullet rating is 1826 and my starting blitz rating is 1812. I'm sure that I could increase them a lot if I really worked at it, but I focus on rapid more.
I hope you enjoy!
This first one is a game filled with inaccuracies and mistakes, but it looks cool... I'm not going to annotate any of these because I don't have time right now, but this doesn't really need comment anyway. It was a 5|0 game.
In the next one my opponent lost a piece early on but the ending is interesting, with an uncommon rook trap.
It seems like I don't have any interesting bullet games since all of them ended stupidly.
Let's continue...
Not bad for my first day really playing in more than a week. My bullet went straight down for some reason and is very low now. Maybe because I haven't practiced moving fast with my mouse for a while. I'm not too worried, though, because my bullet rating is something that jumps up and down all the time. My blitz did go up, though.
Gotta go. Thanks for reading!
