I am waiting for ...
Sometimes you just hit a dry spell. No memes are funny anymore. The spark is lost! But do not dispair, dear friend! This is not the end of silliness! I have been inspired again! And by nothing less than one of the greatest movies in human history!!!!
As usual, all memes below are my own unless otherwise noted. Enjoy!
First, I'd like to complain a little...

Seriously guys?!? Seriously??? Give me a break! They really need to have a scale to judge the quality of tournaments based on the number of decisive results. We'll call it *announcer voice* THE ROYER SCORE!!!!
I dunno, maybe it is the number of decisive games divided by the total number of games? Anything below 75% is weak. Below 50% is failing. That is my two cents.
Btw, for the objectors who say I just need to enjoy tiptoing, milk toast, namby pamby chess, see Ben Finegold's comments here -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuAgB8xUjcw
Now on to some Princess Bride/Chess crossover memes!
It is true; chess changes you...

Rewatched that great classic, The Princess Bride the other day. I've always loved this movie's scintillating sense of humor, as well as its charming common sense, but It has been several years since I had seen it. With this viewing, I was surprised to find a chess set in this scene. It looks like they used replicas of the Lewis chessmen, a very old set which many of us are familiar with (for those unfamiliar see this link). A neat easter egg in what may be one of the greatest films of all time.
And thus, in the midst of nostalgia and good memories, inspirations STRUCK!!!
They were both masters...

The ruins of a chess game are always so interesting. How did that piece get there? Who played this game? Why is there a knight there? Why is there blood on this rook???
He'll never survive!

If I didn't play hope chess, I wouldn't have any chess to play at all. ![]()

I mean, you can always dream, right? At my (very low) level, it seems like it is often worth it to play with slightly less accuracy but to make threats. At this stage I like to say, "always threaten mate in 1." Because, who knows? Sometimes they miss it. ![]()
I promise I'm not making up that rule. Also, if my King gets to the back rank I win...
I was just playing a beginner OTB last night and had to give the utmost assurance that I wasn't making up the rule that says I can take your pawn right after it has moved two squares. It would be kinda fun to troll a beginner with some other weird rules. Put your recommendations in the comments. ![]()
Whoa, Buttercup. Tell us how you really feel.
It might be appropriate to make a version of this meme for rich dudes who cheat in simultaneous games for charities as well ... (for that story, click here).
If you made it this far, congratulations, you're probably a Princess Bride nerd! I've got one more meme for you, if you can't get enough of this crossover!

"I will no be moved!"

I've already referenced Finegold in this post. He's sorta kitschy and old, but he makes me laugh. So...
Ben is pretty famous for destroying weak opponents in interesting ways, like resetting the pieces before he checkmates his opponent. Here is some of that content for you to enjoy.
I hope you enjoyed these memes based on a classic film! If so, feel free to follow this blog for future content. I can't promise to post more often than inspiration strikes. What can I say? Frankly, terrible...
P.S. As a note, I heard a very interesting quote a while back on creativity in an NPR interview that I thought I would share with you here for a better perspective on "inspiration."
“Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself.” - Chuck Close
That probably means I'm an amateur, but at the moment, I'm ok with that. ![]()
