The opening is primarily associated with the Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura, who has used it in online blitz chess + occasionally for humorous effect in high-level games. World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen has also used the opening + a variant 1. f4 (or f3) 2. Kf2 which has also been called the Bongcloud.

BONGCLOUD ATTACK, Opening Position, 1.e4 e5 2.Ke2:

Due to the rising popularity + after the first tournament usage of the opening (Carlsen-Nakamura, March 15, 2021) Chess.com added the Bongcloud to the Openings Librarychesspawn.png

Live commentators were out of control in this first double bongcloud ever played (Carlsen-Nakamura) in a major tournament:
"Don't do this!" cried the Hungarian grandmaster Peter Leko from the commentary booth, looking on in disbelief as the friendly rivals quickly settled for a draw by repetition after six moves. “Is this, uh, called bongcloud? Yeah? It was something like a bongcloud business. This Ke2-Ke7 stuff. Please definitely don’t try it at home. Guys, just forget about it."
“It’s kind of nice,” Tania Sachdev said, “to see these two players having a laugh like this.”

+ i'm gladly sharing with You the following two Bongcloud adventures,

Hikaru Nakamura vs Levon Aronian,

Speed Chess Championship 2018 at Chess.com

p.s. For this tournament Nakamura has surprisingly fulfilled his promise to the fans that he will play Bongcloud Attack, so look at how it ended, have funwink.png

Does anybody have some experiences by playing Bongcloud Attack?

Blog should be very instructive, in the service of our members around Chess.com. My mission is through an interactive blog to wake up all our sleepy & passive chess players, to find the hidden chess potential in them. My vision is to spread the art of chess to the farmost areas of Chess.comhappy.pngMartina
