Over 5000 Award-winning Chess Tips
Hi! I am NM Dan Heisman and - I hate to say it - I have been coaching chess for over 50 years and it's still my full-time profession, coaching players of all ages and levels both online and at my home outside of Philadelphia. Starting in 2011, I decided to use Twitter (now X) to publish a daily Chess Tip of the Day via www.twitter.com/danheisman.
If we do a little math and account for missing a few days, that's still a little over 5,000(!) chess tips and counting. Even assuming some of the best tips have repeated, I would estimate there's over 3,000 unique chess tips. Most tips are aimed to aid an improving adult player.
The Chess Journalists of America have approved. They have voted my Twitter feed as "Best Twitter Feed" in three separate years - I think possibly every time it's been nominated. Not all of my tweets are tips; sometimes I just comment on chess or various interesting topics, or link some topical chess information. Someone following my feed can tell the difference between my tips and my other tweets in 2 different ways: The tips start with an abbreviation of the date (e.g. "F20" = February 20th) and they end with the hashtag "#ChessTip".
I try to make the tips consistent with my Youtube channel www.youtube.com/c/danheismanchess, which has 400 videos, over 10,000 followers, and has also won multiple Chess Journalists of America awards in categories like "Best Instructional Lesson online" and "Best Educational Video". For example, check out the award winner The Ways To Make Better Chess Moves. I have playlists to help viewers find subjects more easily.
This past summer Popular Chess Publishing (formerly Everyman before the merger with New in Chess and Quality Chess) published my book Maximize Your Chess Potential, expanding 164 of my best tips into 1-4 pages each. I have written 14 chess books but I think this is one of my best, incorporating much of the material I use in adult chess lessons.
So if you are looking to improve your game, my Youtube channel and Twitter feed are great places to get free instruction! If you get a chance, check them out and if you like them, pass the word. Anyone wishing to contact me can always do so through my website - I even take calls on my landline. Thanks!
