Knight Or Bishop

Hi all,

At the start of the game, the first pieces other than pawn to come out in the game are bishops and the knight. The knight helps you control the center squares, while the bishop blocks the path for the opposition pieces. Thus, to open your opponents defense, mostly, either of the two is sacrificed. My question is, which to sacrifice?

The knight is very important in the end game as it can jump over pieces and fork to pieces at the same time, while bishop is very important in the middlegame, as it supports the queen and can cove long distances.

So, what should be sacrificed and what should be retained is a tough question indeed, with a uncertain answer. What say?
