The Power of Forking

Forking is a great fundamental to learn, as it can win a game for you. There are so many forking situations, but I will show you guys 2 powerful forking examples. To those who don't yet know what forking is, every example will have a description to show what is going on in the game.

In this game, the knight on c7 has delivered a powerful check, while threatening the rook on a8. The King has no choice but to move to d8, and then white can capture the rook safely and increase material.

In this example, white's queen has forked a rook and a bishop. You might think that taking the rook and delivering a check is much better than a bishop, but think again. If you take the bishop, you trap the rook and eventually take it.

These forking examples are used quite often and you will notice  that they do much more than you think!
