  • Tournament #30 : Phi Kappa Blanca 40, 2/15/92
  • NCSU Student Union, Raleigh, NC
  • TD:  Robert Singletary
  • Section:  U1400
  • Time Control:  40/90, G/30
  • <Crosstable>

A quick administrative note.  I have switched over to a higher rated and more reliable analysis engine (Stockfish 6).  Hopefully, I will have far fewer "...you're really going to suggest THAT move!?" moments from here on.

This would be my first true U1800 section, where I would, play the vast majority of my games...except that, in Round 1, I was the lowest rated player and ended up with a bye.  That put me playing the lowest rated bottom section player.  Rounds 2 and 3 would have me playing some of my more common opponents.  In fact, my last round opponent, Joan Schmidt, would be, by far and to this day, my most common opponent.  Since we played so many times, I'll have plenty of opprotunity to write more on our rivalry.  As I stated in the NC Scholastic Championships, the Schmidt family were regular attendes of the Raleigh Chess Club so I played against them even more often than just these rated tournaments.  My 2nd round game actually saw me coming back from a rook down to steal a draw.

Oh...and that round 3 loss ended my unbeaten streak at 17 games (+14 =3 -0).  A feat I'm almost certian I will never duplicate.

Round 1, Game #87

Round 2, Game #88

Round 3, Game #89
