My first online server game I have a copy of
One of my first chess books was The Sicilian Pelikan (1989). I started playing in 1991 so I must have purchased it in 1991 or 1992. I've still got my copy with teenage hand written notes. The introduction has comments from both Karpov and Kasparov the author shared.
I studied it quite a while before I played it, and it was not the only opening I have a dog eared book for that I didn't play immediately. The first time I played it was in the Under 2000 section of the 1993 World Open and I won with it in fine style.
Here's a 2003 server game where I played the Sveshnikov and won in file style including an exchange sacrifice. It was played at a Daily Chess type time control - with a generous 20 days per move. Both myself and my opponent moved quickly and the entire game only took around 40 days. It's actually the first online server game I have a record of, although I'm sure I'd played on the Internet Chess Server back in its heyday before it went commercial.
