Ootw: Cochrane Gambit!

This week, chessdojo has its first official "Opening of the Week," an opening which we will practice and discuss throughout the week, until a thematic tournament on Sunday, where we can each show what we have learned over the course of the week. In some weeks, the opening of the week will encourage you to go outside your comfort zone and practice something new; in other weeks it will give you a chance to teach others about a specialty of yours, and showcase your own special strengths in our weekly tournament.

For the first week, I have selected the opening, and it is an "unusual" one, the Cochrane Gambit in the Petroff.

To help people get started, I have recorded a video lecture on the subject, which you can watch here (or you can explore on your own first by playing some games, and come back and watch the video later if you prefer-- I actually encourage that!).

Here are the PGNs of the three featured super-GM games, so you can play through them at your own pace:

Game 1:

Game 2:

Game 3:

Remember, there's no substitute for practice! You need to make this opening your own if you are going to play it well, so get some games in. Looking forward to the games each of you will be able to produce on Sunday!

Here is the info for playing in the Sunday tournament, which will be at 10 am pacific in chess.com live.

Four sections by rating. You need to be a member of the Dojo club.  Then you can join by clicking on the correct link-- 1700+ ; 1350-1700 ; 1000-1350under 1000.
