What an eventful week!

Today concludes my 2nd participation in the Bangkok Chess Open Challengers division. It was an eventful week filled with exciting games and meeting new chess players from over the globe.

The Bangkok Open will always have a special place in my heart as it was my first chess tournament that I took part in.

Here is the final list of countries that my opponents came from

  • Indonesia
  • Norway
  • Vietnam
  • Switzerland
  • Malaysia
  • Denmark
  • Singapore! (My own countrymate)

My final score was 4/7 with an ELO gain of 22 points. All in all, a pretty decent tournament but things could have gone much better had I not squandered 3 games in which I had the better position. (1 ended in a lost, 2 in draws.)

As a busy working parent, taking the time off to play in a tournament is not easy. I have to thank many people who supported me during this time.

  • My wife: graciously giving me the time off to play
  • My In-Laws who helped to look after my wife and my son during my playing time.
  • My Coach and friend: IM (International Master) Goh Wei Ming who always points me in the right direction and even for helping me out at the last minute with a problem line I’d encountered whilst preparing for my opponent in round 5.

Anyway, here are some pictures taken from the event

I will be posting games and annotations in the coming days. For now it's time to rest and recharge
