For the interested, a short self-indulgent bit about me
Hello to all you people who have never met and probably will never meet me in person (and also hello to people I have met previously in person - you probably don't need to read this. You already know me).
I'm Dylan, a UC Berkeley student studying abroad this semester in the Netherlands. In that idyllic bubble called university life, I'm majoring in History with a minor in Public Policy and I graduate next year, probably to enter the even more narrow-minded and secluded world of graduate school! My hobbies include drinking (Belgian beer), consuming various forms of media (ie movies, music, literature not with a capital l so really that could include contemporary fiction), writing (I specialize in failed attempts at comedy), and probably other things too (uh... Sudoku...crosswords, etc.). Recently (as in maybe a week or so ago) I decided to add chess to this list. I played a little bit when I was growing up, but I didn't really play seriously, so this is pretty new to me. Sometimes I'm a little competitive, but I'm approaching this more as something i will inevitably become better at with time, so I don't mind losing as long as I learn something. That said, I play to win (obviously).
I didn't care for math and geometry that much growing up, but the more I play chess the more I can appreciate the symmetry and elegance of the game.
Ik woon in Nederland, en ik spreek een beetje Nederlands. Als je spreekt Nederlands, ik wil graag met je spreken.
I am also trying to learn Italian. I know so little that I can't even write these sentences in Italian. If you are willing to teach me a little and speak with me during a game, I would appreciate it. Lo voglio.
Alright I'm done with this for now, bye.
