51st Annual World Open
I played in the 51st World Open because only uncool nerds decided not to, since I'm the coolest person out of anyone I know, (Just look at my profile picture) It would be a crime not to disgrace the chess world with my presence.
I made it a goal of mine to walk out of this tournament with a plus score. Which I'm happy to say I reached with a final total of 5/9.
Not only was I able to meet friends I never thought I would meet outside the chess.com cesspool of nerds. Not only was I able to boost my rating after everything was said and done. I also got to fulfill a dream I had when I was ten, Keep reading to find out.
Round 1. Against 1637 FIDE
After I almost draw a pawn-up ending with a 1939 I was surprisingly not too hopeful for the next rounds to come. Yet surprisingly (once again) I didn't do (that) bad the rest of the rounds.
Round 2. Against 2388 FIDE (GM)
A disappointing result, given the win was in my grasp after barely escaping the opening with my pieces intact. Yet a surprising one coming from someone who had once won the World Open a few consecutive times.
Round 3. Against 2371 FIDE (GM)
Once again, another disappointing result for me! Another possible win lost due to laziness and the lack of calculation on my part. I would add something here about me losing because of the low time I was in constantly in my games. But only losers do that. Plus we all know I only lost due to lack of calculation and an extreme amount of laziness when assessing the positions. Low time should not be an excuse for playing bad chess. If you think I learned a lesson from that game. You would be wrong.
(Short Story) Right, before we get back to the main saga I want to brag about the new shirt I was given by a very good friend of mine @goldenbuzzer. After meeting in person for the first time in the few years we've known each other, my friend gave me a gift. This gift was a My Singing Monsters T-shirt. Which I had wanted from when I was a cringey unlikeable child. Of course I stopped caring about that game as soon as I touched grass, yet @goldenbuzzer would not listen.
So rate my shirt 1-10
Since thats out of the way. Back to some horrible chess.
By the way, thanks @goldenbuzzer
Round 4. Against 1844 FIDE
Coming back from the painful lesson my third round opponent had to drill though my head. I was hoping to get back to normal and start playing some decent chess.
Another disappointing finish. Another game thrown due to laziness. This might have been the game where I got it through my thick skull and started to play better and calculate deeper. Which I hope will show in my upcoming games.
Round 5. Against 1864 FIDE
Finally winning a game after seemingly ages of me throwing winning positions. At this point things start to go uphill as I begin playing decent again. Of course, not without blunders by me .
Round 6. Against 2307 FIDE (IM)
An exciting endgame by me! Clearly some special attention to endings will be needed as I study for FIDE (CM).
Round 7. Against 2315 (FM)
This was the quickest game of the whole tournament.
Clearly not the best effort from my esteemed opponent. Possibly an off-day. Whatever the case this game finally gave me the lucky break I was searching for this entire tournament.
Round 8. Against 2349 FIDE
Very interesting game from an opening I have yet to learn. I hope to play this opening more in the future!
Round 9. Against 2369
With that ended my tournament. What a finish as well! With my final score of 5/9 I expect my USCF and FIDE ratings to boost up a decent amount. My goal for this year is to achieve FIDE (CM) by the end of 2023. With my current FIDE (2105) I hope this tournament will help me one step closer to said goal.
Bye.
