So I finally took the time to go to the London Chess Club last night. I did the whole joining and saying hello thing, everyone was very nice and it was quite a pleasant experience. I think I might make playing there a weekly habit.

Anyway, they had a blitz tournament scheduled for that evening and I joined in. All the tournaments in the club are CFC rated which is very nice, but I had never played in a CFC rated blitz tournament before so I had no idea how I was going to do. All in all I don't think I did too horribly as I came out of it with an even 2.5/5 score. I blundered 3 times in the tournament, each time costing me the win and twice losing me the game...but oh well, this is blitz. At the end of it all I had an 1826 performance rating and my losses were to 2100 players, so I guess I did alright.

I think me going last night was somehow pre-ordained as it turned out this was the last day to sign up for the forthcoming city championships. They start next week, 1 round every thursday evening for 8 weeks, SD/90. I'm going to spend the next week listening to "eye of the tiger", doing a lot of pull ups, and doing about 1,000,000,000,000 CTS problems. I think I might record all of this and post a video in a Rocky-esque training montage...wadda ya think?

I also signed up for a weekly teaching session a local expert is putting on starting next month. I think it's a series of lectures of what he says is "advanced topics". This will be the only "coaching" I've ever had so I'm anxious to see what it's like.

Oh! and my quest to reach 80% CTS accuracy continues. Currently I am at 75.5%...
