giving up chess.
After playing chess actively on the internet for the last 4 years, I've decided to call it a day.
It's not been an easy decision, but I've come to my decision based on the following reasons:
1) To improve in chess, one requires a lot of time and commitment, both of which I am not able to give at this point of my life.
2) I'm missing out a lot in life in other areas because of chess. It's been refreshing to read books recently which are not chess related.
3) Playing chess stresses you out mentally, and I've come to realize that if my recreational activites stresses me out.. then where am I going to get my outlet to relax?
4) Unlike a physical sport, chess doesn't build you up physically. Yes, it's great for the mind, but it doesn't add value to one's life.. for example.. one can use the time reading up on chess literature to learn another language, or a life skill such as cooking, information technology..etc.
So yea, that's it. it's been great playing on chess.com and I would recommend this website to anyone who wants to play chess actively online, but as for me, I'm really to try other things now. =)
