The best defense is the counter attack!
My opponent played very aggresively in this blitz 5+0 game. He even sacrificed his rook for my knight to open my king and attack. I was +2 in material but due to the position the evaluation was close to 0.00. However, he chose to exchange queens to get a pawn and decrease his material disadvantage. This was good for me as my king was open and did not want his queen around...
At some point he found a nusty idea x-raying my king with his bishop and trying to reveal a strong attack against me combining his bishop and knight. At that point my best defense was to counter attack his knight and pawn behind it (his idea was a blunder...!). He continued attacking with his knight, but his aggresive way of play had as a result to eventually trap his knight. He sacrificed it (desperado) to get my king on a dangerous square, he revealed a check and made my king go forward in the center. At that point he hoped to find a mating net and mate me, BUT I found the best way to retreat my king in safety and then I used my material advantage which was +3 and started increasing it. I captured 3 more of his pawns and advanced my passed pawn in the best possible way. He sacrificed his rook to stop my pawn and resigned.
In the diagram you can see a strange way to mate him by Stockfish. Of course I would follow a normal way using the two rooks, but Stockfish lets his pawn advance (he does not even capture it!!!), sacrifices a rook and restricts black's king in the corner delivering a mate with the rook.
