KOTH For Beginners Part Two: Locked Position Play
The next chapter in my KOTH series for beginners is how to play locked positions
Phase One: Development
- Keep at least 1 defender on each square that CANNOT be threatened by another piece or can be well defended for each middle square if possible
- Knights are a must
- Be creative this shows how there are many possible ways to play these, but you have to be smart. White now will attack the knight, starting :
Phase Two: Attack
- Remove key defenders ; success in this phase depends on you choices in phase one
Once white gains an advantage to begin the attack, white sacrifices to open up the center and now marches the king
Phase Three: Marching
- Keep defenders on all key squares
- Rooks come into play
- The player dominating position will march, the opponent is forced to defend White wins after using a well thought out and planned attack.
These are some tips easy to comprehend and learn for beginners. Stay tuned for more KOTH for beginners, coming soon!
