Resignation
Friends,
It is with great emotion that I announce my resignation from the 4-Player Chess Administration team today. As many of you will be aware, I've been volunteering my time to the 4PC community for the past two years, first helping with the promotion and evaluation of custom positions as a Custom Games Administrator, then later being recognised in those efforts and appointed to lead the same team as a 4PC Admin. I'm honoured to have been offered the opportunity, and infinitely indebted to those who gave me the charge and trust to responsibly manage and help oversee a community of more than 21,000 4PC players and enthusiasts.
I knew, in taking on the Administrator badge, that I would be challenged often to discharge the responsibility in ways that may not be convenient or advantageous for me and that the honour also came with an obligation of integrity. To that regard, I believe I stood up to the task, even in the face of objecting criticism.
However, it is because of that integrity, that today, I'm choosing to step aside. With recent decisions made by the team, I do not wish to be a representative of this organisation any longer. Contempt is not my motivation though -- I have much respect and owe greatly to the Admin team, its members, and its leaders. I have very little to say in criticism. It's a personal difference, and simply put, I cannot readily stand by and defend the choices of the team, nor the action and inaction of its members. Of course I will continue to be an avid player of the game and member of the community, but it's time to step back into a role with fewer obligations, fewer important decisions, and (fingers crossed) more fun.
My experience serving the community of 4PC has largely been one of great satisfaction and I do believe the game of 4PC is better today than it was two years ago. I count myself lucky to have been even a small contributor in that effort, and assume that the trajectory will continue for many years to come.
