Optimizing Latency on Chess.com
Due to latency issues and the scarcity of information available online, I've decided to create this article to share my findings and hopefully assist those who are facing similar problems.
Firstly, it's important to know that latency control can be managed using the /ping command in the text bar while playing a game. From my analysis, latency issues become significant beyond 100ms. Ideally, staying below 50ms is preferable, and beyond 200ms, the situation worsens considerably.
Chess.com has already published an article on improving latency, which you can consult here:https://support.chess.com/article/213-how-do-i-fix-my-disconnect-lag-issues .
However, despite the advice offered, I was unable to improve my latency until I switched browsers, from Chrome to Opera. This change had a drastic impact.
Therefore, I recommend those who haven't used Opera to try it out. If your latency still exceeds 200ms and you're looking to improve your blitz games, I strongly suggest considering investing in a VPS. You can find them for less than $2/month. Ensure that the VPS is as close as possible to Chess.com's servers in California, USA.
